Eating Healthy

Healthy eating doesn't have to be about eating only one type of food or limiting your choices of what to eat. Be sure to eat a wide variety of foods and keep the portion size down so you don't consume more calories than your body needs. Eat heartily of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains. These foods are high in complex carbohydrates and will help keep you feeling full. Since our bodies are 75% water, we also need a lot of water to stay healthy. Water does not include sugary soft drinks or bottled fruit juices. Most of them contain far too many calories and can cause you to gain unwanted weight.

A good way to encourage healthy eating is to have regular family meals where all member of the family come together to eat. Of course, these meals need to be planned so they contain plenty of fruits and vegetables and only a small amount of sweet desserts. The family meal should limit fatty foods by not using a french fryer. Also limit fast food and snacks. A piece of fruit is much healthier than chips. The meat served should be lean and beans and legumes will help provide protein.

It is well known that a healthy diet makes for a healthier person. You can help keep your blood pressure down and limit your risk for diabetes and heart disease by choosing your food carefully. The main elements of a healthy diet are plenty of fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, and legumes, along with lowfat dairy products. All meats should be very lean.
