Weight Training

Weight training is a form of exercise that uses gravity and the opposing force of the muscle that you are working in order to develop the size and strength of the muscle. The forces of gravity that can be used are in the form of dumbbells, kettlebells, weighted bars, or weight stacks on machines. The history of weight training goes back all the way to ancient Greece. Hippocrates referenced the principle behind weight training when he wrote "that which is used develops, and that which is not used wastes away."

Weight training has many benefits. It strengthens your bones, increases your strength and muscle endurance, and helps to avoid injuries. It also helps to raise your metabolism by building muscle. By building muscle, you burn more calories throughout the day, even hours after you are done lifting weights. Weight lifting can help you to lose fat and thereby change your body.

If you are just starting a weight training routine, there are a few things to remember. One thing to remember is that you want to overload your muscles. In other words, you should be lifting enough weight so that it is difficult to finish the last few repetitions with the proper form. Also, every few weeks, you need to progress by increasing the weight. Another thing to do is to train for your goal. For example, a construction worker who wants to build a lot of muscle mass is not going to train the same way as a new mom wanting to lose the "baby weight."
