There are many benefits to having healthy eating habits particularly when combined with an exercise routine done on a regular basis. This is essential for good overall health.

The most obvious reason to eat healthier is for your health and/or to lose unwanted pounds of fat. Eating healthier is a great reason to lose weight, but it also can prevent certain diseases. Eating healthy can reduce the risks of heart disease, stroke, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and certain cancers such as lung, stomach and colon cancer. So, what foods do you need to eat or abstain from? Adding plenty of fruits and vegetables to your diet is a good start. Also, adding fiber to your diet is a healthy choice as well. It is good idea to avoid saturated and trans fat in order to reduce high cholesterol. For people struggling with high blood pressure, it is a generally accepted idea to stay away from sodium packed foods.

There are what seems to be an unlimited amount of benefits from exercising regularly. The first and most obvious reason for exercising is to lose or maintain weight. Exercise helps use up oxygen, which in turn, forces your body to burn stored fat. There are other reasons to exercise though. Exercise increases brain power by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which helps with mind clarity. It helps melt away stress by causing a positive distraction. Exercise increases energy levels by the endorphins it releases in your blood stream. It also can strengthen relationships with loved ones by simply being more fun than going it alone. Exercise strengthens you heart by producing less plaque, pumping more blood per beat, which in turn, the heart rate works less at rest. Finally, exercise does let a person be more flexible with calorie intake; you do however have to eat what you choose in moderation.
